Mercedes Benz 450 SLC ’78

Schaller.

This gorgeous Mercedes Benz 450 SLC was delivered on December 20th 1978 by the Mercedes dealer S.A. Garage de la Frontiére in Monaco to its first owner Mr. Schaller. It was ordered in a very striking but also classic colour combination of Classic White (737) over red leather, limited slip differential, sunroof, cruise control, central locking, right rearview mirror, Becker Europa radio with automatic aerial and rear speakers, front armrest, 4 power windows, tinted glasses, headlights washers, yellow fog lights and light alloy rims.

In the following years the car was purchased by an Italian, resident in Nice and has been moved very little.

In September 2019, we purchased this 450 SLC for a customer of ours: the car was completely original, never crashed, and 100% rust-free. The entire interior was in original condition – leather, carpeting, wood trim and chrome were as good as new.

Our client, however, commissioned a painstaking restoration in Germany: the entire technology, the entire trim and the glass were dismantled, the paint was sanded down to the bare metal and completely rebuilt with Glasurit products from the Classic Line. In the meantime, the entire mechanics was dismantled and disassembled, all components such as engine, gearbox, front axle, rear axle with differential, brakes, steering, springs, shock absorbers, level control, exhaust system, shaft and more were disassembled, overhauled and reassembled with new original parts. All wearing parts were renewed! The work was carried out by the renowned Mercedes specialist Mario Lüdke from Classic Benz Service, the new paintwork was carried out to a high standard by Effertz & Mainzer GmbH in Bergheim. In total, more than 100.000 euro were invested in the restoration. The work was completed with a new set of Michelin XWX tyres.

This Mercedes C107 is probably the best SLC on the market. Its entire mechanics, including the automatic air conditioning and cruise control, were overhauled, and approx. 2,000 hours were invested in the restoration. It impresses with its preserved patina and drives like a new car of its time.
